About St. Paul

Throughout the week, your group will have the opportunity to serve children through Kids Club as well as visit with elderly residents of St. Paul. You’ll also partner with local homeless shelters and other social service programs that are making an impact in the community. In the evenings, you’ll visit the historic Cathedral of St. Paul and the Minnesota History Center, watch and participate in a local breakdancing competition put on by a local church, and share a meal with the community at a cookout.

Serving in St. Paul

  • Partner with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community.
  • Plan and lead children’s programming, including Bible lessons, games, crafts and reading activities.
  • Most students will serve at each of the service sites during part of the week. Those who serve with the children’s program will remain there all week.

Quote

“We sent an incredible group of students and leaders to serve in St. Paul and yesterday we all returned home. Words like “thankful,” “beautiful” and “transformed” were used by our students to describe their week serving throughout the city alongside other students from South Dakota, Washington state and elsewhere. Some found themselves serving meals in soup kitchens, others sorting donations in cavernous warehouses. Still others spent their time in gymnasiums and grassy fields sharing the love of Jesus, and their smiles, with neighborhood children whose parents wanted nothing more than a safe place for their children to be kids each day. From Salvation Army to the Boys & Girls Club to Kids Club, students have given piggy-back rides, painted faces and shared stories of Shalom from the Scriptures. Still other students visited shut-ins across St. Paul in their homes and at assisted-living centers like Cerenity Care. Everyone made meals together, ate together and experienced new things together. From break-dancing to protests to lakeside beaches, students discovered the rich diversity and community that is St. Paul. Thank you YouthWorks for another incredible trip.”

We teenagers + We communities

Teenagers need to encounter Jesus outside their normal context to deepen their faith and broaden their perspectives. Plus, communities need to be valued—not as mere recipients but as partners who have stories worth sharing in.

When we bring the two together, incredible things happen.
