About Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is one of the most popular tourist destinations in North America, attracting millions of tourists on both the Canadian and American side each year. The area surrounding the falls is popular for recreation and all manner of adventures. Yet at the same time residents of Niagara Falls, New York struggle in the day-to-day of life, dealing with economic problems, employment instability, and poverty. Tourists who come and stay for just a few days will notice the beauty of the area, but may not see the struggle that lies behind it.
Serving in Niagara Falls
• Plan and lead kids programming for children in the community, including Bible lessons, games, crafts and reading.
• Partner with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community.
• Serve through painting, cleaning, yard work or other simple work projects.
• During the week, students may serve at one or more of the above service options.
You and your group will have the opportunity to experience two sides of life in Niagara Falls – both the beauty and the brokenness – that most tourists never get to see. YouthWorks partners with a wide variety of service organizations in this city, giving you the experience of an urban environment without the intensity and fast pace of a larger metropolitan area. Serve through work projects, partnering with soup kitchens, homeless shelters and senior centers, and volunteering with children’s programs.In the evenings you will get to experience the rich beauty and culture of Niagara Falls by visiting the Falls and enjoying ice cream from a local favorite, Twist of the Mist. You and your students will also enjoy all the beauty Niagara offers through several options of cultural or historic engagement such as visiting Historic Fort Niagara or Fort Niagara State Park. End the week with local residents at Historic Holy Trinity by enjoying fellowship through a community meal.
