Madison is the capital of Wisconsin, and with a population of about 240,000 it’s the second largest city in Wisconsin. Located in the central part of the state, Madison is home to the University of Wisconsin. The city prides itself on being a great place to live and raise a family, where residents can enjoy outdoor activities throughout the year. While the university is a primary source of vitality, there are a wide range of other notable businesses and institutions in the area. Madison is socio-economically diverse, but there is a growing awareness among city leaders of pockets of segregation and poverty.
Serving in Madison
• Serve alongside local organizations, such as food pantries, gardens, clothing distribution centers, assisted care facilities or adult day centers.
• During the trip, families will serve with more than one local organization.
Madison is a Family Trip mission site, therefore the programming for the trip is geared towards families serving together and having a great time. You will have the opportunity to work alongside local social service organizations that are already doing great things to serve their community. Sort and package food to support local distribution centers through Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens, spend time working in the garden, or assist elderly residents with any variety of tasks at their home. In the evenings your family will learn more about Madison and engage with the community.
YouthWorks has been inviting families to serve in Madison since 2014, and we continue to build on key partnerships with local service organizations.
