Columbia, MS

Starting at

To serve marginalized populations and learn about the strengths and struggles of rural life.

About Columbia

Your group will get to experience the spirit of the Deep South through learning how one rural community in Mississippi is reinventing itself economically, socially and spiritually. In partnership with local churches, your group will serve children who need a safe place to go during the summer. You’ll also help existing organizations and vulnerable populations through painting, minor home repair projects and other service. Your group will also experience a taste of Mississippi through sampling a mixture of Cajun, soul food and down-home cooking. During the evenings, you’ll hike Red Bluff—“the Grand Canyon of Mississippi,” hear from local leaders, attend a church service and help host a community cookout.

Serving in Columbia

  • Partner with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community.
  • Serve through painting, cleaning, yard work or other simple work projects.
  • Plan and lead kids programming for children in the community, including Bible lessons, games, crafts and reading.
  • Because of the relational nature of service, students may remain at the same service sites through the week or switch between service partners.

We teenagers + We communities

Teenagers need to encounter Jesus outside their normal context to deepen their faith and broaden their perspectives. Plus, communities need to be valued—not as mere recipients but as partners who have stories worth sharing in.

When we bring the two together, incredible things happen.
