What is YouthWorks?
YouthWorks!, Inc. is a youth ministry organization that began in 1994 to provide
quality, affordable, life-changing, Christ-centered mission opportunities
for teenagers. That first summer, we had two mission sites with over 400 youth
participating on mission trips. Now, almost 12 years later, we have 85 mission sites
and expect 42,000 participants in 2007.
What does a typical week look like?
Each week a group of approximately 65 teenagers and their adult leaders
arrive at your site. They come from across the country and are a part of many denominations.
Site staff will facilitate their mission trip. From breakfast until lights
out, you will serve them, build community, organize service projects
and spend time getting to know them. Groups arrive each Sunday evening
and depart on Friday mornings. Each site will run 8-10 weeks of programming during the
summer.
Where can I serve?
Summer staff are needed to serve at one of 85 sites in the summer of 2007.
Sites are located across Canada, the United States and Mexico.
YouthWorks serves in Appalachia, urban areas, American Indian reservations,
Mexico and Rural areas.
Check our
Web site to learn more about the unique
personality of each site.
What are the positions?
A typical site will consist of a Site Director, Work Projects Staff, Kids
Club Staff and Program Staff. Urban sites consist of two Urban Site Staff,
a Program Staff and a Site Director. YouthWorks also hires several people
to fill the Utility Staff position. See the page on job descriptions
in the application packet for more details.
Can I choose the site where I'll serve?
Several factors go into site placement and the process takes much time
and prayer. YouthWorks wants to find the best match for staff and communities.
After all staff have been hired, they are assigned to a site. If you
have specific knowledge, experience or passion regarding a specific site
or type of site, please let us know in the interview and we will take
it into consideration. The YouthWorks Recruiting Team makes all final decisions about site placement.
Is there an age requirement for YouthWorks staff?
YouthWorks staff are selected based on their qualifications and individual fit for the positions that we offer. At minimum, potential YouthWorks staff must be in their first year out of high school [equivalent of a first year college student]. We also believe that you
are never too old to serve on YouthWorks staff.
Is there an application deadline?
Positions are filled as applications are reviewed and interviews are completed.
It is best to get your application in as soon as possible. We begin hiring staff in December and will continue to accept applications until all positions have been filled. Check our Web site for staffing updates.
What happens after I send in my application?
We will begin to process your application when it arrives in Minneapolis.
Once we have your application and all reference forms on file, we will
e-mail you to confirm that your file is complete. At that time, our staff reviews your file and determines if you will receive an interview.
What are the dates of employment?
There will be two summer sessions of employment for summer staff. You will either be part of summer session 1, May 21 - Aug 7 or summer employment session 2, May 28 - Aug 14. YouthWorks will determine which session you will be part of based on availability and information gathered in your application and interview process.
How much will I get paid?
Our salaries are based on experience and position. Although the pay scale
varies, our salary for the summer starts at $2250.00. Site Directors
have a higher starting salary. In addition,YouthWorks also provides lodging,
transportation and meals [with the exception of travel to and from the
retreat location and any meals eaten off site]. Because of limited summer
expenses, we have found that staff can earn a comparable wage to that
of a mainstream summer job.
Do I need to be Adult CPR or First Aid certified?
You will need to be both Adult CPR and First Aid certified in order to serve on summer staff. Certification must be completed by May 1, 2007. By including a receipt of certification charges, YouthWorks will reimburse you for 50% of the cost. We advise all potential staff to begin looking for a class as soon as possible. Staff that have not completed CPR and First Aid by May 21st will not be permitted on site and their contract will be terminated. Check out http://www.redcross.org or call your local fire department for possible classes in your area. Many schools offer certification classes as well.
